They are innovatively designed for stability and accuracy in abrupt condition changes. Rugged and durable, Kestrel meters are drop tested, waterproof, and float if dropped in water.
The wind speed displayed is a 3-second rolling average, allowing the unit to provide a value that is more representative of typical ambient conditions rather than peak speeds from instantaneous gusts of air.
The Kestrel 1000 Wind Meter can easily be switched between mph, km/h, ft/min, m/s, knots, and the Beaufort Scale.
All Kestrel models can be fitted to a portable rotating wind vane mount and tripod to create a portable and accurate weather station.
Patented Impeller: Every Kestrel Meter features a large 1-inch impeller mounted on a sapphire jewel bearing, allowing it to start rotating with even the slightest airflow. For improved accuracy, the impeller housing can rotate within the unit. The patented impeller is user-replaceable and can be removed simply by pushing it out with your thumbs, making replacement easy if it becomes damaged or worn. Wind measurements from the impeller are taken magnetically, and the impeller is not glued or permanently attached to the unit. Each new impeller is calibrated in a wind tunnel at the USA factory, so if regular calibration is required, inserting a new impeller restores the Kestrel Wind Meter to factory calibration standards.
